The Willpower Fallacy

Studies show 1 brain hack can stop addiction cold. Instead of relying on willpower, the brain makes choices and forms behavior based on a built-in, primitive, reward-based system called reinforcement learning. Whenever the brain has a choice, it gravitates toward the more rewarding option.

Y'all, this 8 Minute Short from Pixar on Disney+ makes me wanna roll dice. It's SOOOO D&D. Such a well done video. They packed a lot into 8 minutes and I really want them to do more just like this. A LOT more just like this.

The Ascendant Left

The GOP is steadily losing their voice. Not only have they lost control of every branch of government, but their own base is losing faith in their vision and their ability to realize that vision. Donald Trump may well have kickstarted the death spiral of his own party. While I'm liberal (though not a Democrat), I think this is bad for us all. Democrats need a counterbalance. In an ideal world, we'd see a multiparty system spring up by moving to a ranked choice or similar voting model at the state level. Barring that, we need a strong opposition party. The Left without opposition becomes the party of AOC and Bernie Sanders and, bluntly, that's not good. We need moderate voices in the conversation and moderation only exists when there's a need to counterbalance extremity.

Listen, I hate the guy, too, y'all. But let's all be honest. He pulled off Neo-Viking realness or Modern Loyal Order of Water Buffalo better than I thought possible and I swear if I can't buy a Him costume this October, that's a capitalism fail. Period.
Remembering Simpler Times

I am tired of living through important historical moments. I long for a life that's simpler, when all I cared about was learning how to spell boobies on a calculator or finding the best stick to play with on my walk home from reading Dragon Magazine at the public library.
