The Joy Of Having Daughters
Posted on Feb 07, 2021 at 01:43:05 PM
I have to say that it's a little disheartening to think through the implications of this. Not that daughters increase the chance of divorce, but rather that it implies that a great deal more debate happens around how to "properly" raise a girl that doesn't happen with boys. We, as a society, as so careful about our girls in ways that limit them in life and that just fucking sucks. Our daughters deserve just as much leeway as we provide our boys. This, in other words, is not the daughter's fault but the fault of parents who approach child rearing with sexist tropes that foster limitations of women later in life.

I have to say that I'm very happy with what I got from Heroforge.com. I can highly recommend them to anyone. I think it would benefit from a single coating of clear gloss, but I'm so unskilled on that front that I'm convinced I'd mess it up so I won't.
Chappelle Gives Master Class In Story Telling

Sometimes, I watch something that I thought would be funny that turns out to be so much more. In this clip, Dave Chappelle provides a clear example of why he has the reputation he does. Not since George Carlin have I been as impressed with the pure story telling of a comedian. There've been good examples since Carlin, like some of David Sedaris' or John Mulaney's work, but this stands above. Funny, honest, impactful, and disquieting to the soul in a positive way. If you write, you should aspire to do it as well as this.
I'm reminded of the Carlin dilemma. Is he a comedian who writes his own material or a writer who performs his own material?

Putting Science In The Spotlight

Biden seeks to "refresh" America's science strategy. This is what's needed. I want to us all embrace science the way we did in the 30's and 40's.

The Willpower Fallacy

Studies show 1 brain hack can stop addiction cold. Instead of relying on willpower, the brain makes choices and forms behavior based on a built-in, primitive, reward-based system called reinforcement learning. Whenever the brain has a choice, it gravitates toward the more rewarding option.
