A limited study shows that obesity in humans may be causatively linked to a particular germ living in the host gut. Not likely the only cause, but a cause nonetheless. Elimination of the germ was linked to a ~30% reduction in fat and a decrease in insulin resistance.

Much more study needed, and by itself isn’t a magic bullet against fat, but its still a big deal scientifically.
